How we got to “Unf*cking Work” as our tagline

That’s some salty sailor language right there.

You may have seen some of our Work Pirates posts over the last few months about our mission to unf*ck work, and build our Unf*ck it list too with the help of our community.

Before getting to this tagline, we had some difference in opinion Michelle and me.

She suggested that this was exactly what we are about and what difference we are making in the world.

2 simple words. Very powerful. And, potentially polarising.

She’s all about taking action and making things happen. I might take a bit longer to reflect and weigh things up.

So, I mulled it over. Took my time. Wrote some potential ideas down.

And in the end, I couldn’t come up with anything that was better!

Every other suggestion I crafted sounded like the same old corporate messages we had heard and used before. Or like any other consultancy.

We wanted something that would stand out from the crowd.

Something that would get a reaction.

Something that would make someone say, “Oh good lord no, my saintly ears!” or “Ooh I LOVE that, tell me more!”

We have learned that being marmite is a good thing.

You need to attract your people and repel the ones who aren’t.

Looking at the urban dictionary, the definition of unf*ck is to “correct a situation (or yourself, if necessary).

A very logical, straightforward description.

We added the frankness, as let’s face it, work could be so much better than it is.

So, if you don’t like our messaging or what we do, you have our permission to hide, mute, or block it.

If not, then why not get more involved?...

How do you want to unf*ck work?
